Happymodel Moblite6 & Moblite7 is based on Mr ShutterBug's Formula but we should not blame them for doing it!

[Updates on 17th Dec 2020] Runcam is unable to produce Nano 4 lite in time so Happymodel will ship Moblite series with Runcam Nano 3.
[Updates on 15th Dec 2020] Added comments from Facebook which you can find them right after the summary.
[Updates on 12th Dec 2020] Happymodel Official Pilot Angry Don FPV (Don Johnson) had approached me in the most non-angry way by clarifying that the FC design is based on his feedbacks given to Happymodel in October 2019.
Happymodel has just released two new tiny whoops during this winter season 2020 and they are making them even more lighter with brand new components like Diamond F4 AIO FC, EX0802 19000KV Unibell motors, new HQPROP 40mm 2-blades props and newly-released Runcam Nano 4 lite.
However, we really need to give credits to Mr ShutterBug (Nate Payne) for this new whoop formula. You should check out his video below as he explained in details on how he came out with this formula and I think he is really a genius when comes to whoop design. Many FPV companies have also adopted his other whoop formula like ShutterBug85.
Do also check out Happymodel comments on Moblite series been similar to Mr Shutterbug’s formula.

Personally, I think that it is okay for FPV companies to follow other pilots’ formula as they will create new components to complement these innovative recipes and making these components readily available in the FPV market for our own personal builds. Example, with the release of Moblite series, Happymodel took inspiration from Mr ShutterBug lightest 75mm custom build and combined with their brand new flight controller, DiamondF4 AIO which based on the design by Angry Don FPV from Team Happymodel.
The DiamondF4 AIO design is absolutely Amazing!

First of all, Happymodel shaved some weight by making their new FC into a diamond shape which requires only 3 mounting screws. They also removed the usual micro JST-1.25 3-pins motor connectors and replace them with nicely space-out solder pads. By doing so, the weight of the FC is only 3.42g which is freaking light for an AIO FC that has a VTX output of up to 200mW. The VTX antenna connector is now IPEX (U.FL) which allows easy antenna replacement and the 5.8GHz antenna is also a light-weight version.

This diamond-shaped whoop FC credits goes to Angry Don FPV for his design idea submission to Happymodel in October 2019 by using Happymodel Diamond VTX as an example in the above build. Personally, I like his design better as it offers more protection to the FC (Check flight video of Moblite7 with this enhanced canpy here). You should also check out Angry Don FPV whoop build video below and you will appreciate this FC better. With this DiamondF4, you do not need to spend time removing the motor connectors and you do not have solder pads that are so small and tight that you will risk shorting the ESCs.
Back to Moblite Series!
Anyway, just by coming out with this AIO flight controller alone, we should really forgive Happymodel for adopting Mr ShutterBug’s formula as this is an excellent FC design which will push whoops’ innovation forward. In fact, this FC is also an excellent candidate for KababFPV’s Babytooth formula and I will use it on Dave_C_FPV’s Sanchez Air frame which only have 3 mounting holes.

Next, is the new unibell light-weight motor which weighs only 1.7g each. This further pushed whoop advancement in the FPV market as Whoop’s Formula is all about making them as light as possible.
If you watched Mr ShutterBug’s video above, you will notice that Mr ShutterBug had to cut his HQPROP 40mm 4-blades into 2-blades. With the release of Moblite7, Happymodel has worked with HQPROP to come out with the 2-blades variation and it will be soon easily available to the FPV market.
Lastly, Happymodel also worked with Runcam to come out with lite version of Runcam Nano 4! Woohoo, more weight shaved! Tiny whoopers rejoiced!
Summary
Anyway, if you really want to support Mr ShutterBug, you should click on his affiliate links and purchase Moblite series from those e-commerce websites.
Other than that, we should not blame Happymodel for her Moblite series as they are just not blindly copy and monetization. They actually put in effort to design new components and work with other FPV companies to come out with newly improved products. We should really applaud Happymodel for this by making these components readily available for us without the need of hacking existing components.
Personally, one thing that I like about this hobby is that the FPV community is always open and sharing their designs and formulas pushing FPV to greater heights. I think we should not blame anyone for copying and rejoice when there are new innovations been made. By doing so, we can continue to make this FPV culture an open and forgiving community. Peace and happy whooping!
